Senior Director of Research Programs & Strategy
The Data Science Institute (DSI) is seeking a highly experienced Senior Director for Research Programs & Strategy to lead the DSI’s research and evaluation efforts. The Senior Director is responsible for the strategic management of research initiatives and external and internal research partnerships that support DSI’s activities. The Senior Director for Research Programs & Strategy reports directly to the Executive Director. The Senior Director for Research Programs & Strategy will work collaboratively with the DSI Faculty Director of Research and Faculty Director of AI to sharpen the DSI’s research vision and build strong relationships with scholars, scientists and faculty/staff and to grow the DSI’s research portfolio. The Senior Director will build relationships with agencies and organizations to support research strategy. This includes high-level relationship building, research project development and management, financial and grant management, and program and donor development. The Senior Director will translate academic research into policy and implementation recommendations. The Senior Director will oversee a group of research professionals who are responsible for targeted research and programmatic activities and work with the team to sustain, implement, and disseminate research.
Senior Director of Strategic AI Initiatives and Operations

Assistant Director for the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Office of Research is hiring an Assistant Director for the Eric and Wendy Schmidt AI in Science Postdoctoral Fellowship program funded by Schmidt Sciences, a philanthropic initiative of Eric and Wendy Schmidt. The Assistant Director will lead the program in several key functions, including faculty leadership support in programmatic activities, development of partnerships across all Divisions and the National Laboratories, coordination of postdoctoral recruitment and hiring across academic departments, and overseeing program staff and the operational infrastructure. The Assistant Director will work directly with the Faculty Director and Co-Directors to support postdoctoral scholars in their research, outreach and education activities. The position will also report to the Assistant Provost for Research to ensure broad institutional support and coordinated resources for the program from the Office of the Provost.
Assistant Director, Career Services
The Assistant Director is responsible for the development and maintenance of career services offered by the MS in Applied Data Science program—including but not limited to tailored programs and events, career advising appointments with students, outcomes measurement, and differentiated support for the program’s part-time and full-time In-Person and Online students. The new hire will also work collaboratively with the Data Science Institute, other PSD master’s programs, and UChicagoGRAD to offer a comprehensive portfolio of general and subject specific career resources.
Systems Administrator II
Tech staff is the front line of defense for computer security and oversees all systems engineering/administration needs in the Data Science Institute. The System Administrator II will work in collaboration with other members of Techstaff in the Data Science Institute to serve as a technical resource for faculty, staff and students, and to assist the technical team with all aspects of systems management. The primary role is to learn the operations infrastructure, attend meetings, write basic automations, fix errors and bugs, and assist the senior members of the team with all architecture and administration tasks.
Staff Data Engineer
Working in collaboration with UChicago Data Science Institute faculty and staff and The Schmidt Family Foundation 11th Hour Project (“11th Hour”), the Staff Data Engineer (“SDE”) will increase the data capacity of 11th Hour program staff and grantees. In addition to capacity building, this role will consult on 11th Hour grantee data collection and modeling as well as the long-range goals of advancing scientific discovery, developing open source resources, innovative technical consulting, development and delivery of workshops and training, and other activities designed to advance the research and practice of data-driven and data intensive discovery across 11th Hour grantee areas.
