Dr. Arnab Bose is a Senior Instructional Professor and Faculty Director of the MS in Applied AI program at the University of Chicago Data Science Institute. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer at UST AlphaAI.

He has over two and a half decades of industry experience and enjoys working with data to influence behavioral outcomes.

As an entrepreneur, Arnab had a startup focused on industrial applications of AI in healthcare, finance, semiconductor, and retail that he successfully exited post-acquisition. He is an advisor to AI companies and the Chief Scientific Officer at UST AlphaAI. At the University of Chicago, Arnab teaches Machine Learning, Machine Learning Operations, Time Series Analysis and Forecasting, and Data Science in Healthcare.

Arnab has published a book, book chapters, and numerous peer-reviewed conference & journal papers. He enjoys public speaking and has given talks in the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and India. He is an avid traveler and has visited the 7 wonders of the world. Arnab holds MS and PhD degrees from the University of Southern California and a BTech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India.

Batu Gundogdu holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and is an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Chicago, bringing over 15 years of experience developing deep-learning models across the fields of speech, language, and medical imaging. Most recently, he served as Head of AI Engineering at Eva, an AI compute startup, building algorithms for a novel next-generation AI hardware.

Previously, Dr. Gundogdu served as Research Faculty in the Department of Radiology at the University of Chicago for four years, where he led AI efforts at the MRI Research Center.

In the UChicago MS in Applied Data Science program, he shares his practical insights and experiences with students on being an AI engineer and scientist across diverse venues, including research institutions (UChicago MRI Research Center), corporate companies (Analog Devices – ADI), government (Navy and NATO), and startups (Eva). He teaches courses on Bayesian Machine Learning for Generative AI and Deep Learning.

Dr. Gundogdu also teaches in UChicago’s MS in Applied Artificial Intelligence program, where he is a founding faculty member. Drawing on his experience across research, industry, and startups, he helps students connect advanced AI concepts with the realities of building and deploying AI systems in practice. He is also a Co-Founder of VicVox, a boutique AI startup analyzing social discourse.

Dr. Pamuksuz, a professor of AI, specializes in applied mathematics, machine/deep learning, responsible and generative AI. He has contributed to various analytics journals, including IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence, and has shared his insights at several national and international conferences.

Since joining the University of Chicago as a faculty member in 2018, Dr. Pamuksuz has taught a range of subjects, including data mining, machine learning, and linear & non-linear models, along with more specialized areas like AI-data science for leaders and Generative AI Research. His supervision of capstone theses has often centered on computer vision and natural language processing.

In the professional realm, Dr. Pamuksuz has an impressive record. He has led data science teams at several Fortune 500 companies, provided expert consultancy in architecting cloud-based machine learning solutions, and co-founded Inference Analytics in 2018. Under his leadership, Inference Analytics was recognized in 2023 as one of the top Machine Learning Companies in Illinois, marking a significant milestone in healthcare analytics in Chicago.

Dr. Pamuksuz’s academic path has taken him through some of Illinois’ most prestigious universities. He completed his MS in Computer Engineering/Science at Northwestern University and went on to earn his Ph.D. from UIUC. Today, he contributes his expertise as a faculty member at the University of Chicago. This journey, connecting three significant academic institutions, reflects a strong foundation and dedication to his field and a deep engagement with the state’s rich educational landscape. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Pamuksuz is enthusiastic about hackathons, not only participating in several but also organizing them twice annually since 2020. His involvement has yielded notable success in various data challenges. As a sports fan, he follows Champions League Soccer, supporting Galatasaray, and enjoys engaging in basketball and volleyball during his leisure time. He also enjoys smooth/gypsy jazz where you can find him on Wednesdays in his favorite place Green Mill.

Greg Green is Senior Instructional Professor and Director of the MS in Applied Data Science Program at the University of Chicago, and Senior Director for Industrial Partnerships and Strategy at the Data Science Institute. Dr. Green helps the University of Chicago professional data science students learn to apply data science to solve complex industry problems with greater impact.

Dr. Green is reshaping the content and approaches used to educate the next generation of professional data scientists at the University of Chicago.  Additionally, Greg is designing new, creative offerings more deeply connected to MS and PhD research programs in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, and Financial Mathematics. New course offerings developed and launched since joining the University of Chicago include an innovative approach to “Leadership in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence”, “Consulting in Data Science” and “Your Career in Data Science”.

Throughout his professional career, Greg has used his expertise in digital strategies, business analytics, and new product development to drive rapid revenue growth and accelerate business transformation. His previous work bringing innovation to an academic environment included authoring a Marketing Analytics course, designing a pre-requisite applied statistics course and serving as a lecturer for Marketing Analytics at Northwestern University.

Greg’s industry roles include Chief Analytics Officer at Harland Clarke Holdings, Director at Google, EVP/Managing Director at Publicis Groupe, and Analytics Practice Lead at PwC. Greg’s patented cloud-based media analytics platform was highlighted in Harvard Business Review and Fast Company.

Greg holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from Claremont Graduate School and a Master of Science in Statistics from Michigan State University. Born in Owosso, Michigan, Greg is married to Jill, an artist, and their adult children include two more artists, a teacher, and an engineer. Greg and his family enjoy snowboarding, snow/water skiing and live theatre—as well as good food and friendships. Their passion for the environment is reflected in a love for Lake Michigan where they like to spend as much of the summer as possible.

Francisco Azeredo is a financial economist and decision scientist with over 15 years of experience working for leading financial and consulting firms in the Chicago area.

He is presently an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Chicago. Previously, he was the senior vice-president at Northern Trust, working on research and development of quantitative strategies for fixed income and equities at Northern Trust Asset Management.

Prior to joining asset management, Francisco led strategic and quantitative driven projects across Northern Trust’s three major business units. His experience included leading analytics projects on foreign exchange global revenue forecast, wealth management client deposit modeling, wealth management digital client behavior modeling, treasury deposit modeling, derivatives and hedging solutions and foreign exchange high-frequency algorithmic execution cost. He also conducted research on foreign exchange algorithmic execution methods and securities lending price modeling.

His prior work experience includes credit risk, operational risk and macroeconomic modeling for stress testing and capital planning, analysis of complex financial instruments, interest rate modeling, and econometric and predictive analysis for litigation matters involving financial institutions and multinational corporations.

His research in financial economics was recognized by leading economists in the Handbook of the Equity Risk Premium, Intermediate Financial Theory, and an encyclopedia of behavior economics. He currently teaches reinforcement learning, statistical analysis, non-linear statistical modeling, and optimization methods in the MS in Applied Data Science program at the University of Chicago and has five years of prior experience teaching at Northwestern University, the University of California, Santa Barbara and Riverside. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Nick Kadochnikov is an Adjunct Associate Professor at University of Chicago Data Science Institute as well as head of Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology group at Harbor Global, where he is at the forefront of creating cutting-edge Generative AI tools and advanced tech solutions. These innovative capabilities assist law firms and corporate legal teams in enhancing their service quality, making legal processes more streamlined, accessible, and requiring less manual effort.

Before joining Harbor, Nick served as a Director of AI at William Blair, where he oversaw the development of advanced AI/ML capabilities and intelligent workflows to transform Investment Banking processes. Prior to that, Nick dedicated 20 years at IBM, successfully crafting AI solutions for a wide range of enterprise functions such as supply-chain, sales, marketing, finance, procurement, and legal. In his final role at IBM Watson Health Consulting, his main focus was on utilizing AI to address healthcare challenges, enhancing patient outcomes, elevating population health, and optimizing the efficiency of clinical trials.

Dr. Dmitri Sidorov is a Principal Data Scientist at Abbott Laboratories, a multinational healthcare company, specializing in research-based drugs, medical devices, diagnostics, and nutritional products.

He earned a PhD in Physics from Oklahoma State University with a focus in analysis of data from particle physics experiments and applying statistics.

Dmitri has over a decade of professional experience analyzing Big Data, using various methods and techniques, and generating relevant and actionable insights. He teaches R for Data Science and Big Data and Cloud Computing courses in the MS in Applied Data Science program at the University of Chicago.

This experience gave him a strong belief that any endeavor can be improved by intelligent use of data.

Drawing on over two decades of cybersecurity expertise, Prashant Kulkarni is a Lead AI Security Research Engineer at Google Cloud, where he collaborates extensively to secure modern AI systems, including large language models. His pedagogical approach centers on demystifying complex concepts and fostering rigorous, hands-on learning, enabling students to master intricate topics in responsible AI through practical application. Dedicated to empowering the next generation of data science practitioners, Prashant provides his cohorts with tangible, industry-ready skills and insights. An alumnus of the University of Chicago with a Master of Science in Applied Data Science, his research uniquely blends deep cybersecurity knowledge with advanced machine learning, emphasizing adversarial defenses, privacy-preserving training, and the ethical deployment of AI.

Taylor Alexander serves as the Associate Director of Instructional Services for the MS in Applied Data Science program. A graduate of the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, she plays a key role in overseeing foundational assessments, managing cloud computing resources, and supporting faculty and program development.

With over a decade of experience in higher education, Taylor brings a strong background in international comparative education and foreign credential evaluation. Her interest in data science was sparked during her graduate studies, where she discovered a passion for integrating data-driven approaches into education.

Her current research centers on the ethical application of artificial intelligence in higher education, reflecting her commitment to advancing thoughtful, responsible innovation in the field.

Briana Allen serves as the Executive Director of the MS Applied Data Science Program. Briana oversees the day-to-day responsibilities of the Instructional Services and Operations teams. Briana holds a Master of Technology in Education and has a background in instructional design, with an emphasis in online course design. As a Quality Matters Certified Peer Reviewer, Briana focuses on the intersection of quality of online course development and student experiences, including how online best practices can be leveraged by in-person courses. Briana is passionate about mentoring instructors in the creation of high-quality instructional resources, leveraging active learning strategies, and applying instructional technologies that create engaging student experiences across all modalities.

Jose Alvarado serves as the Associate Director of Enrollment Management for the MS in Applied AI program. Prior to his current role, Jose served as a higher education professional specializing in recruitment and enrollment management. He has worked at great institutions around the Chicagoland area, such as the University of Illinois System, Northwestern University, and Loyola University Chicago. He brings with him extensive knowledge of working with undergraduate, graduate, and international student populations.

Josie Badillo Sittig currently holds the role of Assistant Director of Marketing/Advertising & Communications for the MS in Applied Data Science program. With an extensive background exclusively in the advertising agency realm, Josie brings a wealth of experience gained from collaborating with diverse clients, spanning healthcare to lottery sectors. Prior to stepping into her current position, Josie’s career has been marked by a dedication to delivering impactful marketing and communications solutions.

Zach Brown is an Operations Coordinator for the Applied Data Science Operations team. In this role, he manages room reservations and oversees classroom technology for MS-ADS classes and events within NBC Tower. Drawing on more than a decade of experience in Student Center Facility Operations and Event Services, Zach brings valuable experience to his position. Previously, he held several roles at the Illini Union, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Most recently, he was the Program Manager for the Event Services Office, where he led a team of undergraduate students in processing all facility reservations. Zach’s educational background includes a Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Anthropology from Ohio State University.

Nick DiAntonio serves as one of the Graduate Academic Advisors for the MS in Applied Data Science program at the University of Chicago. Nick primarily advises students in the In-Person Program. Prior to working at the University of Chicago, Nick earned his Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education from Kent State University in Kent, Ohio. Nick has worked professionally in higher education since 2018 and is dedicated to helping students succeed.

Lauren Isaacman Darga is the Assistant Director of External Partnerships for the MS in Applied Data Science program at the University of Chicago. In this role, she is committed to establishing meaningful relationships and bridging the gap between graduate students and external organizations. Lauren brings a wealth of experience including her tenure at Marsh McLennan, work in alumni relations for her alma mater, and involvement in minor-league baseball. She holds both BA and MA degrees in Organizational Communication from the University of Memphis.

Henry Igunbor currently holds the role of Senior Manager of Facilities and IT, overseeing the 28th floor of the NBC Tower. His primary focus is continuous improvement, ensuring that both facilities and technology operate seamlessly to support a productive and efficient work/learning environment. With a strong background in IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and vendor management, Henry has held leadership roles in IT and InfoSec, previously serving as Director of IT & InfoSec and IT Infrastructure Analyst Senior Associate. He also worked as an IT & AV Support – Systems Administrator at Kellogg Northwestern, where he provided technical support, managed AV operations, and ensured smooth IT functionality across various platforms. Throughout his career, he has led major IT initiatives, process optimizations, and cross-functional collaborations to drive operational excellence.

William Jones serves as the Academic Affairs Specialist supporting Other Academic Appointees for the University of Chicago’s MS in Applied Data Science program. In this role, he manages academic personnel processes including appointments, reappointments, and onboarding for instructional staff, coordinates hiring and compliance documentation, and supports program operations by collaborating with faculty and administrative partners to ensure timely processing, clear communication, and a positive experience for academic appointees.

William earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Chicago State University. He brings a diverse background in compliance, operations, and program administration spanning higher education, law enforcement, and financial regulation.

Samantha Kruse serves as the Associate Director of Student Affairs for the MS in Applied Data Science. After starting a career in community organizing and politics, Samantha realized her passion for working with students and advocating on their behalf. Previously, she worked with graduate and undergraduate students in the nonprofit sector and the University of Illinois system. She specializes in student advising and retention and has been recognized for excellence in advising at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She also has experience in admissions and registrar functions for both credit and noncredit course offerings. Samantha earned her Master of Public Administration in 2018. Her capstone focused on public service motivation and retention.

Alison Ossyra is the Director of External Partnerships and Career Services for the Master’s in Applied Data Science (MS-ADS) program. Since 2017, Alison has been dedicated to supporting MS-ADS students in various capacities. Currently, she oversees career services, fosters external partnerships, manages alumni relations, and coordinates capstone projects. Her diverse experience also includes roles in admissions and marketing. Alison holds a BA in International Studies from the University of Illinois. She began her career in higher education at Northwestern University, bringing a wealth of knowledge and a passion for student success to her current role.

Dr. DuJuan Smith currently serves as the Director of Student Affairs for the MS in Applied Data Science program at the University of Chicago. In his role, he oversees graduate academic advising, student-related matters, and policy development to support the progression of all students. He loves helping others walk in purpose while amplifying their genius. He obtained his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration in December 2020 at Illinois State University (ISU) in Higher Education Administration. His impressive career includes serving as the Assistant Dean of Student Life for Semester at Sea in the Spring of 2014 & Spring of 2020; Assistant Dean of Students at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Assistant Dean of Students for the University of Houston (UH), and Coordinator of Judicial Affairs at Moraine Valley Community College. He holds a B.A. in Applied Sociology with a minor in Black Studies and an M.S.Ed. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University (NIU). In his spare time, he teaches youth photography, loves to travel, and is engaged in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. DuJuan is an active and proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated!

Taylor Wallace serves as the primary Academic Advisor for the MS in Applied Data Science in-person program with last names A-K. Taylor received her B.S  from The University of Texas at Austin in Deaf Education, and her M.Ed from DePaul University in Higher Education Leadership, with an academic and professional focus on student affairs, student conduct and crisis, and event coordination. She brings a breadth of knowledge to advising the Applied Data Science program experience and finds a deep joy and honor in guiding students to their individual goals, pathways, and careers.

Jennifer Wei is the Assistant Director of Career Services for the Master’s in Applied Data Science (MS-ADS) program. Her focus is on advising MS-ADS students in their career journey through individualized sessions and career workshops. Jennifer joins the program from industry where she worked in various engineering, consulting, and management roles. Jennifer holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Engineering Management from Northwestern University.

Samantha Widemon serves as a Senior Graduate Academic Advisors for the MS in Applied Data Science in-person and online programs at the University of Chicago. Samantha earned her Bachelor’s in Communication Studies degree from Northwestern University, and her Master’s in Nonprofit Administration, with certificates in Higher Education and Leadership, from North Park University. She has worked in higher education for eight years, providing administrative and advising support to students as they navigate through their undergraduate and graduate studies.

Ben Wiebers is the Assistant Director of Career Services for the Master’s in Applied Data Science (MS-ADS) program. He brings a holistic approach to career advising, with a special emphasis on online students within the MS-ADS program. Prior to working at the university, Ben was a technical recruiter, helping to bring staff of all levels into niche technical roles across Chicago startups and enterprise companies in the US. Regardless of the setting, Ben centers his work on reflection and lifelong learning to enable others to identify and reach their goals. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of Wyoming and a master’s degree in Education from Loyola University Chicago.
