Summer Research Programs
The UChicago Data Science Institute hosts summer research programs for undergraduate students: Summer Lab and the Data Science for Social Impact Summer Experience. Students in both programs are rooted in our summer cohort community and attend shared programming including guest speakers, social outings, and research presentations.

Data Science for Social Impact
Summer 2025 program dates: June 16th – August 12th, 2025
Summer Lab
The Summer Lab program is an immersive 8-week paid summer research program. In the program, undergraduate students (and Chicago-area high school students) are paired with data science mentors in various domains, including computer science, data science, social science, climate and energy policy, public policy, materials science, and biomedical research.

Data Science for Social Impact Summer Experience
The Data Science for Social Impact (DSSI) Summer Experience is an immersive 8-week paid research program for undergraduate students from DSSI partner institutions. Students in the program hone their data science skills in research methods and teamwork, while learning how to engage with a real-world data science projects in climate, health, policy, human rights, financial inclusion, and more.
