DataDive details
Across the U.S. and around the world, cities and local communities are responsible for addressing the everyday needs of their residents. From providing critical safety net services to fostering economic development opportunities and advocating for individuals in need, communities have a growing list of responsibilities. Collecting and analyzing data can equip local leaders with insights and capacity to better serve their communities and prepare for their futures. Capitalizing on these opportunities, however, requires the support of multiple stakeholders to adopt new approaches for leveraging open data in decision-making
With the theme of Shining a Light on Community to Advance a Nation, we’re excited to host a virtual DataDive event with partners from the urban digital divide, policy, and gender equity sectors, including University of Chicago’s Center for Data and Computing, New America’s Future of Land and Housing program, and the Dolores Barr Weaver Policy Center. Our DataDive events are high-energy and marathon-style where teams of socially conscious quantitative experts dive into Data Science and AI for Good projects.
Whether you’re passionate about social impact, a future-looking funder, or a wide-ranging expert, this DataKind event will have something for everyone. No previous DataKind experience and no data science expertise are required. Applicants interested in volunteering will be asked to register and identify what skills they’re looking to share or learn so that we can match them to the right project.
Register to reserve your spot now. We’re looking forward to harnessing the power of data science and AI in the service of humanity with you!
Do you want to volunteer? You’ll help build tools to direct local leaders to identify and map internet availability and performance, empower cities and counties to analyze and visualize their housing loss data, and advocate for individuals who have been historically marginalized. You can attend any portion of the event in which you have interest.
