Speaker: Yuri Alexeev, Argonne National Laboratory

Abstract: In this talk, I will introduce the concept of quantum circuit simulators, why they are needed, the most recent developments, and our work on parallel quantum simulators designed to run on large supercomputers with the eventual goal to run at scale on exa-scale supercomputers Aurora and Frontier. Our most recent simulator QTensor is based on the tensor network representation of quantum circuits. I will compare the performance of QTensor against other simulators and discuss future developments.

Speaker Bio: Yuri Alexeev is a principal project specialist at the Computational Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory and a scientist in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago. He is also a principal investigator in the National Quantum Center Q-NEXT, a member of the Chicago Quantum Exchange, senior member of IEEE society, and an affiliated member of Enabling Practical-scale Quantum Computing (EPiQC) project. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Iowa State University in Mark Gordon’s quantum chemistry group. After graduation, he became a postdoctoral fellow at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Later, he joined the Nobel Prize winner Dr. Martin Karplus’ group at Harvard University and Université de Strasbourg.

This event is part of the Fermilab, Argonne, and UChicago Computational Science Series organized by the Joint Task Force Initiative.
