The Data Science Institute (DSI) was delighted to host a reception in honor of its graduating class of data science majors at the Smart Museum of Art earlier this month. Against the backdrop of the Smart’s 50th anniversary exhibition, students had a chance to celebrate the accomplishment with their classmates as well as program leadership, including DSI Faculty Directors Dan Nicolae, Mike Franklin, and David Uminsky, Director of Undergraduate Data Science David Biron, Assistant Director of Undergraduate Data Science Maria Lema, and Data Science Clinic Directors Nick Ross and Tim Hannifan.

This year, 80 students are set to graduate from the undergraduate Data Science program, 26 with Bachelor of Arts degrees and 54 with Bachelor of Science degrees. Of these, 48 majors are graduating with honors. In addition, 48 graduating students completed minors in Data Science this year.

“This year’s class goes out into the world already having accomplished so much: from quantifying the impacts of deforestation through the PalmWatch project, to applying the latest technology to support discovery at Fermilab with the Data Science Clinic,” said Program Director and Assistant Senior Instructional Professor David Biron. “We encourage our graduates to keep us updated on what they go on to do. We can’t wait to see what they do next.”

Congratulations to this year’s graduating class for all your hard work. We look forward to supporting your work as the next generation of data scientists!
