Bingqing Cheng
Bingqing Cheng is an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to that, she was an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Science & Technology Austria (ISTA). She obtained her PhD in Materials Science from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in 2019. After graduation, she became a Junior Research Fellow at Trinity College, University of Cambridge, and then, in 2020, a Departmental Early Career Fellow in the Department of Computer Science and Technology in Cambridge. She has won the Volker Heine Young Investigator Award, the Journal of Chemical Physics Best Paper by an Emerging Investigator Award, and the European Research Council starting grant. The vision of Prof. Cheng’s lab is to be able to make accurate computational predictions for material properties that are both difficult to access both experimentally and theoretically. To this end, we will design and employ novel methods combining statistical mechanics, first-principles methods, and machine learning.
