Jian Zhou obtained his Ph.D. in Quantitative and Computational Biology from Princeton University and was a faculty member at UT Southwestern Medical Center from 2019 before joining the University of Chicago in 2025. His current research focus is on developing machine learning and AI methods for understanding how genomic sequences function. He is especially interested in how data and models can reveal the logic of gene regulation, improve our ability to interpret genetic variation, and enable flexible design of biological sequences. His broader interests span genomics, human genetics, evolution, machine learning, and AI.
