Kimberly Ruth

Kimberly Ruth joined DSI as a postdoctoral scholar in August 2026. Her research aims to develop a stronger science of computer security, using a mix of empirical techniques to study real-world settings. Her recent work focuses on the security weaknesses of organizations, and includes surfacing new design constraints, challenging accepted wisdom about best practices, and developing next-generation approaches for defenders. She completed her Ph.D. at Stanford and her dual BS and BA degrees at the University of Washington, and is the recipient of an NSF GRFP Fellowship, a Stanford EDGE Fellowship, and an IRTF Applied Networking Research Prize.
