Taewook Kim

Taewook Kim joined the Data Science Institute as a Postdoctoral Scholar in July 2026, working with Ari Holtzman and Chenhao Tan. He received his PhD in Technology and Social Behavior (a joint PhD in Computer Science and Communication Studies) from Northwestern University. His research sits at the intersection of AI safety and human-computer interaction, with a focus on AI for Science. He studies i) when and why AI systems produce outputs that are plausible but not reliably useful or even harmful, and ii) what factors shape human agency and trust in AI delegation, with the goal of building AI systems that genuinely support scientific work like research ideation and paper review.
