Outlier Research & Evaluation Director publishes NSF supported report on Component-Based Research
New report shares emerging ideas, possibilities, and next steps developed during a working meeting
The Outlier Research & Evaluation team at the University of Chicago’s Data Science Institute hosted a working meeting funded by the National Science Foundation on November 15th – 17th, 2023. Outlier Research & Education Director Jeanne Century recently published a report of the workshop, exploring the necessary elements to support component-based research.
Component-based research, as outlined by Jeanne Century and colleagues, focuses on unpacking innovations into precisely described parts to identify the core features and processes that most contribute to desired outcomes. The report outlines new ideas for identifying the components of innovation and specifying the contexts and conditions in which innovations operate.
