As Research Program Manager at the Data Science Institute, Maria V. Fernandez works closely with DSI leadership and faculty to develop and execute research initiatives at the DSI, including the Data and Democracy, Data Ecology, Complementary AI, and AI for Climate initiatives. Maria also manages the DSI’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program and provides project management and guidance to faculty during the grant proposal development and writing process.

Before joining the DSI in January 2023, Maria was a Project Manager and Metadata Specialist at the University of Chicago Library. She has over 10 years of experience working in higher education and research libraries at the University of Chicago, Brown University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Dartmouth College. Maria received an MS in Information Studies and an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and an AB in History from Dartmouth College. She holds a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute.
