Maria Victoria Fernandez (she/her)
As Senior Research Program Manager at the Data Science Institute, Maria Victoria Fernandez collaborates with DSI leadership and faculty to develop and execute strategic research initiatives, including Data and Democracy, Data Ecology, and Novel Intelligence. Maria oversees the DSI’s Postdoctoral Scholars Program and provides comprehensive project management support to faculty throughout the grant proposal development and writing process.
Prior to joining the DSI in January 2023, Maria was a Project Manager and Metadata Specialist at the University of Chicago Library. She brings over a decade of experience in higher education and research libraries, with previous positions at the University of Chicago, Brown University, the University of Texas at Austin, and Dartmouth College. Maria holds an MS in Information Studies and an MA in Latin American Studies from the University of Texas at Austin, and an AB in History from Dartmouth College. Her professional certifications include Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute, Certified Research Administrator (CRA) through the Research Administrators Certification Council, and Digital Archives Specialist (DAS) through the Society of American Archivists. The American Library Association (ALA) named her an Emerging Leader in 2023.
